Holiday Essentials

Summer has been a whirlwind. I (like the majority of students) have been working all summer to pay for their upcoming year at university, with a few splurges along the way. In June me and my boyfriend decided that we would up and go to Australia in September, giving us a few months to save some spending money and after seeing friends jet off on their summer hols and feeling mightily disheartened, it is finally my turn!

Admittedly, I am a stressy flyer. The hassle of the airport, the idea that something would go wrong with the plane and the terrible plane food all gives me the heeby jeebies. So, I like to soften the blow a little when it comes to what I take in my hand luggage. Like most people, my skin becomes dry and dehydrated as soon as the plane ascends into the air and there are a few key products (along with some essentials to) that help me combat that and make me feel generally better about the whole flying situation...

The Essentials...

This pretty much goes without saying, but to me, these 4 little gems are a must for any flight scenario. First things first, deodorant - we all know the plane can get a bit hot and sticky and considering that I shall be travelling for 24 hours, this baby will definitely come in handy.

Toothpaste. Particularly travel sized toothpaste is a god send. On long haul flights the airline usually give you a free tube in one of those 'I'm free but not very good' goody bags. But, as it normally tastes like sandpaper, I like to take my own. Dry shampoo. Not necessary for a short haul flight, but for me It is a must on long-haul, no greasy roots for me thank you. Last but not least, cotton wool ovals. These things are a life saver for me when it comes to flying and are such an underrated essential, here's why...

Lush Loves...

Make-up is a no from me when I am on a plane for more than five hours. No one wants to worry about falling asleep with their slap on or it sinking into their pores. Nevertheless, I will be taking this Lush '9 to 5' cleaning lotion with me. It is great for cleansing the skin (whether you have make-up on or not) and is also a great mediator of moisture. Swiping this across your face with a cotton pad will immediately make your skin feel less tight, but if you follow it up with a hydrating face oil for example, no more dehydrated skin!

A toner spritz goes without saying. Any brand, any concoction, any formula. As long as it is refreshing and has a spritzer, I'm there. This is my favourite though, 'A Breath of Fresh Air' from Lush. It is full of lovely things that are going to invigorate your skin on your flight. For example, Fresh sea water, aloe vera gel and rose absolute. For any time when your skin is feeling a little 'meh' or you simply want to freshen up, this will certainly do the job.

Hydration...

Hydration for face and lips. If you would like to know more about the Odacite Hydration Serum Concentrate just click on the link and it will redirect you to my review (let me just say, it is pretty extraordinary). Of course, a lip balm is has to be chucked in my unattractive, airport safe clear plastic bag, like any other bag for that matter. This one is what my friend kindly brought me back from Thailand and I have demanded a couple more since. It is from Maybelline but unfortunately we can't get it here in the UK. It is luxuriously moisturising and adds a subtle pink tint to your lips (I mainly like it for the moisture though).

Complexion...

'Beauty Balm' is the perfect name for this product. It isn't a foundation, it's not even a BB/CC cream, it simply makes your complexion look a bit more put together. It is tinted, but the tint acts as a kind of bronzing effect to the balm. It also visibly reduces the size of pores (massively!) and reduces the redness around my nose and on my chin, including acne scars. It also has SPF 20 in it, which is a major plus point for me. This is the kind of product that will be redundant until the last hour or so of my flight, I'll just pop this all over my face as a 'I'm finally ready for my holiday after 24 hours of flying' last minute touch. It also won't be stored in my hand luggage for the rest of my time in Aus as it acts as a perfect make-up primer! I'm all about being multi-functional, well done Urban Decay.

What cosmetics do you take on the plane? x
